Identification of pollution sources in roadside soils of Cairo-Alexandria Highway, Egypt

نویسندگان

چکیده

Nile Delta represents 63% of Egypt’s fertile agricultural land. Unfortunately, food chain contamination with potentially toxic elements (PTEs) was recorded along Cairo- Alexandria Highway within Delta. This paper aims to identify pollution sources PTEs (Cd, Pb, Co, Ni, Zn, Cu, Cr, and Mn), using multivariate statistics. Generally, the studied soil is alkaline loam about 3.69% CaCO3 1.97% organic matter. Pollution levels varied widely from uncontaminated highly contaminated soil. Cd, Ni showed spatial variability, relatively high enrichment, reflecting their anthropogenic sources. Mn Cr show more uniform distribution, natural source geologic parent material Egyptian Surprisingly, no significant road traffic impact observed at sampling sites. Multivariate analysis indicates P-fertilizer main rather than in roadside soils. The prevailing fertilizers as a may be referred expansion use unleaded fuel continuous increase annual fertilization rate.

Assessment of Spatial Distribution and Pollution with Heavy Metals in Roadside Soils along Xi’an-baoji Highway in Northwest China

Xi’an-Baoji Highway is one of the oldest and most important highways in northwest China. In this study, the concentrations (0-20 cm) of Pb, Zn, Cu and Cr at 5-1000 m distances in the roadside soils along Xi’an-Baoji Highway were experimentally determined to analyze their spatial distribution and evaluate their contamination levels. The spatial distribution (mg·kg) of Pb, Zn, Cu and Cr at 5-1000...

Assessment and Analysis of Traffic Noise Pollution in Alexandria City, Egypt

This paper presents the results obtained in a study of environmental noise pollution in Alexandria city. Alexandria is a coastal city. It is the second largest city in Egypt. Thirty seven sampling sites were selected to measure the noise level at three main streets in the city (Elgish Street, Horreya Avenue and Circular Highway). The minimum noise levels recoded at Elgish Street, Horreya Avenue...

Evaluation of roadside soils pollution with heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Cu, Zn) in the Rasht-Qazvin old road (Guilan province)

Background and Objective: Contamination of roadside soils with heavy metals is a serious threat to soil ecosystems and organisms and human health. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of heavy metals in the roadside soils of the Rasht-Qazvin old road. Materials and Methods: 10 out-of-town sampling sites were selected via the field observation of the entire ar...
